The Rain

The rain is pounding on my window
Outside the lightning puts on it's show
When I was a child I was afraid of the thunder
I would crawl under the covers just to be under
Crash boom I would hear the lightning strike
I shuttered and cringed and closed my eyes tight
As the storm got closer and almost overhead
I would throw off the covers and hide under the bed
Then a bright light followed by a loud boom
I took off like a rocket into my parent's room
I crawled into bed next to my mother
I knew she would comfort me like no other
With each new crash I would shutter and shake
My heart was racing as I now lay awake
My mother would hold me in her arms
I knew I was safe and now free from harm
Those were the days I remember long ago
Tonight as it rains outside my window
