What do you say to someone new
Who has lost a loved one just like you
You know what works and what to say
As you walk up to them and say it's ok
Your arms reach out for a special embrace
As tears stream down upon your face
As hearts that are broken and falling apart
Just be there for them is a very special start
For they know also where you have been
They know the love you give is from deep within
Your thoughts race back to years ago
When it you were there with no where to go
The grief the struggles amidst all the pain
Knowing your life will never be the same
So now you share what you have learned
Compassion and understanding you have earned
Yet deep down you know inside
How many nights you have cried
Now you must try and how then now
Sadly at this time they don't know how
Just be there with open arms and a heart of Love
The rest is left to God above
There are no answers we can give
Only that they did live
Their work on earth now was done
For God called them home in the name of his son.
As you leave and say goodbye
Memories come back and you may cry
Remembering back to those days ago
When everything happened and you didn't know
It happened to you for it was real
Now you can teach others what they feel
A painful ending we live through
I know it happened to me and to you.
