Simpler Things

A new day begins as you awake
Life goes on there is no mistake
Whether the sun shines or not a new day begins
With all the nuances that come from deep within
We complain about things that make us mad
Yet why we don't look for the good is bad
Tragedy strikes and lives are lost
Hearts are shattered no matter the cost
Yet day by day is all we see
Dismal things and more misery
Yet look around and you will see
Those little things that make you happy
A loving smile a spoken word
Soft and sweet and not absurd
The simpler things in life are free
Watching the clouds so gracefully
To try and guess what the next cloud will be
A dog a hand look real close and you may see
How the wonders of nature go on their way
And change the skies each and every day
The flowers bloom and the birds still sing
These are many of the simpler things
For once back then many years ago
This is life and it made us glow
To remember those days now gone in time
When I was a kid and life was so fine
