I Remember Christmas

I remember Christmases long ago
When I was a child and didn't know
I would look forward to the trees and lights
They would glow in the dark winter night
My mom would bake Christmas cookies and pies
I would lick my fingers when she turned her eyes
I would hope for the weather to be just right
On Christmas day everything would be white
I remember counting the days before
They seemed to drag on forever more
The Christmas tree was set Christmas eve
Santa would decorate it as I was to believe
I would wake up early Christmas morn
Run down the stairs in slippers all worn
Then to my eyes the magic was there
I knew Santa was here it was in the air
Presents all wrapped and under the tree
All I looked for was the ones for me
The smile on my face the joy in my eyes
As I opened my presents each a surprise
Those days of yesterday so long ago
All I have are memories that I know
Way back when times were slow
Now everything is fast and go go go
What happened to those days of old
All we have left is the stories I'm told
But one thing for sure I know this is true
Each new Christmas brings out the kid in you
